A very good question! Are you sure you want to get into it? I can provide you a great deal of information as I myself wants to become a game developer. So I spend all my time developing physics engines (mid complexity ones), game engines (simple versions) to practice. However, that is fields of Game Programming and not Game Design. But I read Game Design books anyways and they are not simple. They range from theory, level design, concept arts and much more. Maybe we can start a thread/topic/section somewhere for this as it will have a BIG deal of information.

I would recommend finding your strength and focusing on it, but that doesn't mean you should ignore other areas. Good to be a little rounded, but especially strong in one field. Above all, the ability to work efficiently in a team is important.

And hullo to you, Chaos.
It is a mystery...
