I checked MMO focused. But the more I thought about it, I think PC focused would be more towards my liking. I was with a group of people who played Quake 3 and our forums were based almost solely on that game. It worked great for us when we all played that, but as that game began to die, it was hard to "transfer" everyone to a new game. Some wanted SciFi based FPS, some wanted modern FPS and some wanted mmo's (and then there were different style MMO's  ) We self destructed the community by limiting our membership to people who played Quake 3.

I think if we limit the forums to just say MMO's or just a genre we run the risk of alienating others as we will eventually move to a new game. I know MMO encompasses a wide range of games...but I am not just an MMO gamer.

When I signed up, I saw FFG as a game community and a Saga as a branch of that. I liked that idea and I knew that I could find someone to play games with no matter what I felt like playing. I know a lot of members here are from AoC right now... but limiting the forums to just MMO's seems a bit restrictive on how I saw FFG when I joined. I think a majority of us here prefer PC gaming and I believe FFG should be promoted as a PC gaming community and not just MMO game forum. This allows us to narrow down our focus without pinpointing a specific genre of games.

-edit

also I do think some of the sections could be trimmed down. If feels like the Treehouse section is a lot of useless forums for categorizing specific discussions that makes it look like we have a lot of conversation on those topics. I don't think that's necessary. Arcade could be trimmed to just "Consoles" Lastly... I think we need a "members" section. It look to me that all forums are publicly visible.

The only thing I dont want to see is us falling into the trap of being a community without a purpose. Sure its nice to cater for different people, but that can come at a risk of loss of cohesion within the community. I feel as though MMO gaming is a broad enough genre in which we can be situated, while still not alienating other gamers. We can still have the other RTS, FPS game forums, but have an expanded and more pronounced MMO section.

And as I said before alot of us no doubt would have other 'clans' that we play our other RTS and FPS games with. I know I do. So that way we could still have the community aspect but without being a clan. I for one would not be able to get involved in FPS games anyway with FFG members due to my geographical location. But I sure as heck would love to play MMO games with you guys, and still chat about RTS and FPS now and then.

I guess its more of what the individuals make of this community. If you want a more RTS centric experience, get people interested, post about RTS, set up a little team that plays RTS under the FFG name, or just plays together. Im sure if activity in that direction takes off, then we can always readjust priorities and expand on that particular area. But for now I only see MMO games as the most viable option. Conan is taking of excellently. And I would love to get an FFG Guild Wars 2 guild up and running when that is released.

Any way all interesting conversation and im sure its all helping. So keep it up B-)

I like the idea of just focusing on general computer gaming. Consoles and other stuff can just be discussed in an OT thread and the mains can focus primarily on computer games. MMO, RTS, etc etc you get the idea. Just because I know for me, personally, I play MMOs, First Person Shooters, Strategy and ya know a broad array of games not just MMOs.

That's my two cents.

I voted for PC Gaming, I think a focus too narrow could become stagnant too easily. As a PC gaming community the arena is far more my size.
That being said I wont mind whatever route the majority choses, I just like playing with ya'll.

We do sort of try to do other games as well. But I think that the fact that were from all over the world really rules out FPS due to ping, and not many people seem keen on RTS as far as I can gather. So really its just that our user base sort of drags us more towards MMO's its not really by design more by circumstance of our current player base. If anyone is keen for CoH or most other RTS im more than happy to set some games up though.

My 2 cents...

There aren't any communities out there large enough to house multiple genres. In fact most aren't large enough to house multiple games of the same genre. This community definitely is not large enough to be spread so thinly across so many interests. In fact the community has suffered greatly since the initial demise of APB. When we all sort of went separate ways after that, the community died.

I feel it is absolutely imperative that we get back to single focus (a single game, 2 at the absolute most). Currently with the lack of focus on a single game, well do I really need to reiterate the state of FFG?

I am all for picking a single focus. My vote would be for Age of Conan or for APB when it comes back online.

I agree 100% with you Deznts. I been Skyping/Vent(ing) with a lot of the older members and the general census is APB/AoC as charters and Rift as our next game (which launches March 1) so that will be our main focus. If we have any takers who definitely want to lead the AoC charter (I will resub and help run the show for the first month) then let me know. APB will be F2P so I am sure all the old faces will have no problem coming back.

As for Rift, more info will be posted soon, maybe even tonight.

Thanks,
Tommy

"A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of woes and shattered shields, when the age of men comes crashing down! But it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good Earth, I bid you- stand, Men of the West! "

I actually would like to withdraw my vote for AoC. I just rage quit that game. My account will only be playable through the end of the month.

It was bad enough to come back, start to do the Khitai faction quests, and then realize the INSANE grind factor required to achieve a single piece of loot.

Then I had 2 issues regarding graphics that were very frustrating. I emailed tech support and their response was "You could try posting in the forums to see if any other users could help you with that" Can you believe that?!?

I'm an IT guy (un/self-employed now). I could not imagine telling a customer "sorry I won't help you. refer to this website". I know my clients wouldn't pay for that sort of service and I'm not going to either. Unless my responses get a professional reply where they actually offer to help, diagnose, troubleshoot, etc., they've forced my hand in quitting that game for good.

Looking forward to maybe an open beta of Rift. Really looking forward to the return of APB. In the meantime I'm gonna try the beta of World of Tanks.
