 Thought I'd throw this out here on the forums for people who might have questions regarding the PvP and Gearing. Few people are getting close to or are hitting level 50 in the next couple of days so I thought this would be helpful for starting your grind.

First, let's lay out all the currencies, ranks, items, etc. that play the role in acquiring the PvP gear, and then we will talk about the process. These include:

  • Warzone Commendations
  • Mercenary Commendations
  • Centurion Commendations
  • Champion Commendations
  • Champion Gear Bag
  • Battlemaster Gear Bag
  • Valor


Warzone Commendations are obtained through PvP in one of the three Warzones. Depending if you win or lose and how you perform in a warzone you may be awarded anywhere from 20 to 100 commendations. The more you focus on objectives the more commendations you will receive. Slicing the console, planting the bomb, getting the ball across the line all count towards objectives. Also, doing more than 75K damage in a warzone, solo killing a player, doing more than 2.5K in a single hit, defending other players via Guard ability, healing, defending node, etc. Even in a losing match, if you manage to get enough medals you can be awarded nice sum of commendations and same goes in other direction. You may win, but suck on objectives and get 20 commendations.

While it is well known how to obtain Warzone Commendations, Mercenary and other types of commendations may be a mystery to some. Mercenary Commendations were obtainable from chests at Outlaws Den in Tatooine, but BioWare nerfed it. You can still attempt to obtain some that way, but the way 99% of the people do it today is by trading Warzone Commendations for Mercenary Commendations at PvP Items vendor on Republic Fleet or inside any Warzone. The conversion rate is 30 Warzone Commendations for 10 Mercenary Commendations.

Centurion and Champion Commendations can only be obtained from Champion and Battlemaster Gear Bags that are obtainable in a few different ways. These bags are unique and you can only have 1 in your inventory/cargo at a time, with exception of bags awarded from daily/weekly quests.

Champion Gear Bags can be open at level 50 and do not require Valor rank. They can be obtained in one of the two ways:

  • Purchase from PvP Items vendor for 200 Warzone and 200 Mercenary Commendations
  • Daily and Weekly PvP Quests


Champion Gear Bag awards you with one of the following:

  • 3 Centurion Commendations
  • 1 Centurion Commendation and 1 Unassembled Champion Gear Item for your class


Battlemaster Gear Bags can only be open at level 50 and Valor rank 60. Battlemaster Gear Bag can be obtained only from Daily and Weekly PvP Quests and cannot be purchased from vendor.

Battlemaster Gear Bag awards you with one of the following:

  • 3 Champion Commendations
  • 1 Champion Commendation and 1 Unassembled Battlemaster Gear Item for your class


So, based on the above, it may seem like the grind for the gear is insanely difficult. It is not the case. By completing daily and weekly PvP quests, one can get as many as 10 Champion Gear Bags first day after reset, and then 4 Bags after that, not counting the ones purchased for Warzone Commendations.

Steps to obtain Champion Gear Bags and maximize the gear acquisition:

  • The moment you hit 800 Warzone Commendations, convert 600 Warzone Commendations to 200 Mercenary Commendations. That will leave you with 200 Warzone and 200 Mercenary Commendations. Buy a Champion Gear Bag but don't open it up.
  • Do the Daily PvP Warzone Quests requiring 3 Wins. This quest will award you with 1 Champion Gear Bag and 1 bag of your choice: Champion or Battlemaster. Pick Champion if you're below Valor Rank 60. You will get 2 Champion Gear Bags and you will end up with 3 in your inventory because quest awarded bags ignore uniqueness. Do not open these bags yet.
  • Do the Daily Illum PvP Quest requiring you to help war effort on 5 fronts. This quest will award you the same thing as the Daily PvP Warzone Quest. Once again, you will get 2 Champion Gear Bags. Do not open them up. You will now have either 4 or 5 depending if you bought a single bag for commendations
  • Do the Weekly PvP Warzone Quest requiring 9 Wins. This quest will award you with 2 Champion Gear Bags and 1 bag of your choice: Champion or Battlemaster. Picking Champion Gear Bag will land you 3 more bags, bringing your total in inventory to 7-8 bags. Do not open these bags up yet.
  • Do the Weekly Illum PvP Quest requiring you to help war effort on 15 fronts. This quest will award you the same thing as the Weekly PvP Warzone Quest. Once again, you will get 3 Champion Gear Bags, bringing your total now to 10-11 Champion Gear Bags in your inventory.
  • Start opening the bags!!


Once the weekly quests are complete you are looking at 4-5 bags per day just by completing Daily PvP quests. If you feel like bumping that number up, you must grind 800 Warzone Commendations.

If your luck totally sucks and you get Centurion Commendations only, do not waste them! Wait another day and collect as many Centurion as you can for the time when you start collecting Battlemaster Bags, because you might need to augment your gear and bag count will go down by 2-4.

Daily quests reset at 6:00 AM CST, and weekly quests reset at 6:00 AM CST on Tuesdays.
